About the event
The STEM Makeover is a hands-on STEM innovation and empowerment workshop designed to help girls see science, technology, engineering, and math in a creative new way. Led by Linda Hargrove — Engineer, STEM Educator & Author, participants will transform simple, everyday materials into working engineering projects while learning the science behind each creation.
Girls will explore acoustical engineering, physics and optics, and mechanical energy through three interactive projects: building an acoustic phone amplifier, creating a Newton’s color disk, and designing a cardboard-and-string spinner. Along the way, they’ll experiment, problem-solve, personalize their creations, and discover how engineering shows up in everyday life.
Beyond the activities, this workshop gives girls the opportunity to learn directly from a Black woman in engineering, ask questions, and see firsthand that STEM can be creative, accessible, and a pathway for their own futures.
